Legion of Super Heroes Complete Chronology Part 2 (13-24)

December 1961 - August 1962

13 - Superboy #93: December, 1961

Another setup with the statuettes. Superboy sure does like to show those off.

Lana was pretty sure Clark and Superboy were one and the same. Chameleon Boy comes from the future to throw Lana off the trail.

14 - Superman Annual #4: December, 1961
Features a 2 page spread of the Powers and Origins of the Legion. Shown here is an awesome house ad for that issue.

15 - Action Comics #285: February, 1962

Supergirl is having some doubts, so she sends a note to Braniac 5 by hurling it into the future.

Braniac 5 sends her back and answer...and a Shrink Ray! Thanks!

16 - Adventure Comics #293: February, 1962
Nice legion cover appearance. We also have the 1st appearance of a personal favorite of mine. The Legion of Super Pets!

This is actually the 1st appearance of Comet the Super Horse also. Supergirl doesn't have him yet. Its a glimpse from the future.

17 - Action Comics #286: March, 1962
Legion of Super Villains giving Superman trouble again.

18 - Action Comics #287: April, 1962

This time the Legion request Supergirls help. She comes right away.

While in the future, she runs into Streaky? No, that's Whizzy, a descendant of Streaky that can speak telepathically thanks to the process of evolution.

19 - Superman #152: April, 1962

Those crazy Legionnaires. Hey, lets celebrate Supergirl's arrival on Earth by making robots of Superman's friends and messing with his head.

20 - Action Comics #288: May ,1962

Mon-El comes out of the Phantom Zone just long enough to save the day.

21 - Action Comics #289: June, 1962

Supergirl is determined to find a mate for Superman. She travels to the future (plus a little) to hook him up with Saturn Woman. Too bad she's already married.

22 - Action Comics #290: July, 1962

Those Legionnaire figures sure are handy. Phantom girl stops by real quick to give Supergirl one of herself.

23 - Superboy #98: July, 1962
1st appearance of Ultra Boy.

24 - Superman #155: August, 1962

Lightning Man, Cosmic Man, Superman, Krypto, and superstar wrestler, Antonino Rocca all pull off the "that was someone else disguised as" trick...mind blown!

Legion of Super Heroes Complete Chronology Part 1 (1-12)

April, 1958 - November, 1961

I have been trying to collect every Legion of Superheroes and related appearance in comics history. Well, up to Crisis anyway. Turns out that identifying the appearances isn't as simple as flipping through Overstreet or Googling it. So I am going to attempt to chronicle the chronology. One thing that is missing from every list I have seen is proof. Many may cite a Legion or Legion character appearance incorrectly. This list will be image heavy with pictures of covers and a picture from the inside showing the appearance mentioned. If the appearance is prominent on the cover, well then, we'll let that suffice. Every attempt will be made to do so in Issue cover date order. Enjoy.

1 - Adventure Comics #247: April, 1958
1st Appearance of Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, and Cosmic Boy.

2 - Adventure Comics #267: December, 1959
2nd Appearance

3 - Action Comics #267: August, 1960
Supergirl meets The Legion in the second story

4 - Superboy #86: January, 1961
Lightning Lad very conveniently helps Superboy out of a jam after witnessing it from the future.

I love how the L.L. initials are blatantly mentioned early on in the story. I think that may be a set up.

Yep, one L.L comes to rescue Superboy from another. Thanks Lightning Lad!

5 - Adventure Comics #282: March, 1961 1st Starboy

6 - Action Comics #276: May, 1961
Supergirl Joins The Legion and the roster begins to grow. 1st appearances of Braniac 5, Phantom Girl, Triplicate Girl, Bouncing Boy, Triplicate Girl, Shrinking Violet, and Triplicate Girl. :)

7 - Superboy #89: June, 1961
1st Mon-El, though not in the Legion yet, a significant first appearance.

8 - Superman #147: August, 1961
1st appearance of The Adult Legion, because this is SuperMAN, not SuperBOY. Makes perfect sense.

9 - Adventure Comics #289: October, 1961
A Legionnaire Statuettes cameo.

Pa is going to do some cleaning while Ma is out of town. Whats Clark doing that giant blade?

Let me casually mention these new characters for our readers, and get the plot going by messing around with this unknown secretly powered space jewel.

10 - Adventure Comics #290: November, 1961
1st Sun Boy

11 - Superman #149: November, 1961
This is an imaginary appearance. What if Superman Died? .

Well the Legion would be at his funeral of course

12 - Action Comics #283: December, 1961

This one is iffy. We have a time bubble and Chameleon Men from the 30th century, but is that Chameleon Man from the Legion of Super Villains?

I'm going to say yes since one of them mentions talking to Cosmic King and Lightning Lord.
